Post-Degree Diploma in Gerentology

Best practices in “Healthy Aging” requires an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the physical, social, cognitive, and spiritual needs of older adults. Gerontology is one of the growth areas of the 21st century due to population aging worldwide.

The number of individuals over the age of 65 will double in the next 25 years creating opportunities in a variety of sectors. Globally, as health systems change in response to population aging, job and leadership opportunities are created. The graduate diploma offers health professionals from a variety of fields and disciplines the perspectives, knowledge and capabilities that they require to understand the diverse and evolving needs of aging adults.

Theoretical approaches, current best practices across disciplines, use of evidence based research findings, and experiential learning are woven throughout the curriculum. Gaining an understanding of the lived experiences of older adults, their families, and the communities in which they live is foundational to the program.

Admission Requirements

• To be admitted into the program, students must hold a baccalaureate degree from a recognized university in any health and social service discipline, and meet the following admission criteria: A minimum average of “B” calculated upon the last 60 credits attempted of the undergraduate degree.
• Students engaged in preparation courses must reach Academic Preparation Level 5 (AP5) in order to begin academic courses in the Post Degree Gerontology Diploma. 

Notes on Admission

Students who meet or exceed the minimum admission requirements may not necessarily be admitted to the program.

Transfer from Other Institutions

Applicants may apply for possible transfer credits from other accredited graduate programs in Canada on a course-by-course basis.

Start Date

The program will start in September 2018 pending institutional approval.

Application Period

Applications for admission are accepted anytime between February 15 and November 15. Applications received after November 16 are considered late and will be processed as space permits.

This program costs $26,055* plus student activity fees of approximately $2,900*
